LinkedIn Is Set To Rebuild It’s Group Feature

LinkedIn is set to rebuild its group feature after pulling the feature from their social media platform earlier this year. Following on from complaints from users regarding the amount of spam being posted, as well as the lack of engagements within the groups by their members resulting in the group feature becoming unused. Due to these criticisms, LinkedIn has now decided to re-roll out the Group feature to its members and will be offering new features in the hope to get the Group section back up and running.

General Group features

So after all the speculation and talk about these new features, what can users expect to see change?

The first thing is

  1. Easier access to Groups – they will now be located on the homepage so you will have easier access, as well as being able to see the most recent updated posts from your groups in the homepage feed and under notifications.
  2. Upload of videos to groups – The new update allows you to mention members with using @ allowing members to engage in the conversation and reply to others.
  3. Updated IOS and Android apps. Will keep you engaged with your groups in now easier than before. The new updates allow you to now manage your groups on the go to keep conversations following, edit posts and comments.

This feature will automatically update on all existing and new LinkedIn profiles. Not only will you be able to access the group feature on your desktop but also on LinkedIn apps.

Group administrators

For Group Administrators there are a few things we can do to make the most out of the group features.

  1. Update the rules you expect to be followed within your group, let members know your expectations within the group.
  2. Group Templates. Update your templates, these are your automate welcome message, request to join message, decline message, and decline/block.
  3. Use a moderation queue – to keep posts within your expectations review any content and remove any members who violate your rules stated.
  4. Goodbye Admin and auto-generated group emails. As part of the update, LinkedIn plans to build “better and more robust notification and communication channels”. People are more likely to engage with a group when they get notifications from them.
